Beware of Photoshopped Images

 

 

Many of the photos that people have identified as postmortem photos are really just manipulated by programs like PhotoShop.    Usually they are the images that are unusually grotesque.  Below you'll find some of the examples.

Victorian Era Photoshop

Around  1890, Victorian photographers discovered the art of the "double exposure".  This skill, in its fledgling years, took hours in the darkroom, but it did allow them to begin manipulating photos. It gave birth to two photographic fads,  Spirit Photograpy and the Headless Portrait.   Many people were convinced that the ghosts of their loved ones actually appeared in their Spirit Photography  photos during the development process. This caused  quite a stir, and a dramatic increase in the number of seances that were held to summon their dead loved ones.   However,  Headless Portraits were just for amusement.  Examples appear below.
